Battle of the Saiyans
The latest film entry in the Dragon Ball series titled Dragon Ball Super: Broly released the official plot to the movie detailing the arrival of the now canon character Broly to Earth. The plot is as follows:
“This is the story of a new Saiyan. Earth is peaceful following the Tournament of Power. Realizing that the universes still hold many more strong people yet to see, Goku spends all his days training to reach even greater heights. Then one day, Goku and Vegeta are faced by a Saiyan called ‘Broly’ who they’ve never seen before. The Saiyans were supposed to have been almost completely wiped out in the destruction of Planet Vegeta, so what’s this one doing on Earth? This encounter between the three Saiyans who have followed completely different destinies turns into a stupendous battle, with even Freiza (back from Hell) getting caught up in the mix.”
What this tell us
Well first off and what seems funny is the fact they are pushing hard the fact that the first three Broly movies: The Legendary Super Saiyan, Second Coming, and Bio Broly did not happen. The trailer claims over and over that this is a new Saiyan nobody ever met with Vegeta himself jumping in on the fun. There some promise in this though, Akira Toriyama never created Broly, this would be his first story tackling the character. How mighty Broly has been in the past, his character development took a back seat for screaming and blaming Goku for that one time he cried too much.
Freiza’s presence will be interesting, in the trailer we seem him battle Broly in what appears to be a volcano, with Broly and his father Paragus arriving on Earth using a ship that resembles Freiza’s signature ship. He might play a role similar to the story arc “Tournament of Power” from the recent anime where he aids Goku with a reward in mind.
Thoughts and Feelings
While this is exciting just waiting for the film to come out, things appear more than they seemed. What was thought to be just a reboot for Broly now appeared to encompass a full cast growing and having new roles as the series continues. Quick shots from the trailer show the Saiyans in their prime even with a few shots of mysterious baby Saiyan. I like how the films now are connected versus how the films from the nineties were singular stories that weren’t canon to the plot which had Goku and his friends defeat the current threat with ease which usually ends with them going to a buffet.
Battle of Gods was a breath of fresh air for the Dragon Ball series establishing an extension to the lore with Resurrection F building upon that with surprises to follow. Broly’s addition creates that same expectation, to assume the unexpected from a series as old as this one still holding strong.
We’ll have to see what happens when the film comes out this December in Japan and in January in the United States. Below is the trailer to the film, comment below ifyou’re excited to see the movie. In other news Doom Eternal will allow players to control a demon in the game.
