Naoki Yoshida has announced his hopes that Final Fantasy XIV will be ready in time for the PS5. The director attended a fanfest event in London on November 20. He appeared on the stage unannounced to hand out raffle prizes. The top prize at the event was a PS4 Final Fantasy XIV console, signed by Yoshida himself.
On stage, Yoshida said that “he and the rest of the team are hard at work on the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV, aiming to make it a reality for fans around the world”.
An official statement was made by Square Enix following Yoshida’s comments. “While not a confirmation, Yoshida-san expressed a hope that Final Fantasy XIV Online may one day appear on the next generation of Sony console”.
Final Fantasy XIV was dropped by Square Enix in 2010 following a negative reception and they started again. Three years later, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was released to higher praise.
