Niantic Unveils Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

WB Games and Niantic have shared more details about their new game. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a new augmented reality game, much like Pokemon Go. Only with a much more magical twist to it.

In the game, you’ll play a new recruit for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. This basically means you’ll be investigating The Calamity, which risks exposing magic to all muggles. This includes casting spells to capture “”Foundables,” and return them to their rightful place.”” Seems like the perfect excuse to break out your wands and get some exercise.

Like Pokemon Go, you’ll notice that certain “Foundables” can be easier to track near certain places. There are also Inns that are actual real-life places you can visit to replenish your spell energy, allowing for more captures. Potion ingredients are also found on the map with some places being designated Greenhouses, so I’m guessing more plants there. Lastly, keep an eye out for portmanteaus, as they will unlock portkeys. Portkeys actually open a portal to places in the Harry Potter world, letting you look around places like Ollivander’s in full 360 view. Have a look below to see a screenshot of the map, with a trace found.

Similar to gyms in Pokemon Go, Wizards Unite have Fortresses. You and your friends, or strangers, can team up at these and challenge dangerous foes. These foes include the likes of Death Eaters and soul-sucking dementors. You can also specialize in different professions for more varied skills. Aurors, Magizoologists, and Professors are listed on their website, with each having unique abilities.

Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to playing this new VR game. Personally, I might have to upgrade my phone so I can live the dream of a Magizoologist.

I am a fighting game fanatic. I love all genres pretty much but fighting games are top of the list. I'm from America. I've always been a fan of writing and video games both but it only occurred to me recently that I could put them together.

Have your say!
