You read the headline correctly, The Last of Us Part II will feature nudity and sexual content, according to its ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating which was spotted by ResetEra user SoulsHunt on PlayStation’s website. The inclusion of this content will mark Naughty Dog’s first time in this level of maturity compared to its usual violence and language from the 2013 PS3 classic.

The mature 17+ rating comes from its “blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, use of drugs,” and then the “sexual content” and “nudity.” Often, sexual themes follow up on the content and nudity, which does not appear here. Between sexual content and themes, there is a difference. From the ESRB, it defines sexual content as “non-explicit depictions of sexual behavior, possibly including partial nudity” while the latter is “references to sex or sexuality.

Don’t expect things to get sexy like the strippers in GTA as like the first entry, the narrative of the undead and bandit infested world fills itself up with depressing scenarios like the deaths of children along with harsh realities of how cruel humans can become in dire situations. Do note that no sexual violence is listed for the upcoming sequel, but we do get hints of the content with some partial nudity of Ellie as you can see her back with no shirt in the latest trailer (seen below).

Regardless of content, we can expect an emotional rollercoaster from The Last of Us Part II, which was due this month but got pushed to release May 29 exclusively for PS4.

What do you think the addition of sexual content entails for The Last of Us Part II? Let us know in the comments.

I am a student in California trying to get a degree in journalism. I have aimed to get myself into the world of video game journalism, so I have focused on achieving that with my education and my writing.I have been a lifelong gamer who loves action-adventure titles, shooters, RPGs, and anything with explosions and excitement.Outside of gaming, I am a huge metalhead and movie fanatic. Give me brutal music along with some good comedies, action flicks, and of course, some grade-A horror.

Have your say!
