Since the delay of Metroid Prime 4 rumours for a Metroid Prime HD Trilogy port to the Switch has been constantly popping up. That’s not to say the rumours are strong though more so that fans are expecting a release to keep them busy until development for Prime 4 has finished. The latest rumour comes from pre-order listings for the collection by Swedish retailer Inet.
Inet originally listed the game in 2018 and have recently changed some of the details. The Game Awards announcement has been removed and they have also added the release date of 19th June 2020. Since Nintendo has made no mention of the Trilogy it’s best to not to take it at face value until we hear an official announcement.
That being said, the coronavirus pandemic has created some difficulty with development and release of titles causing delays. In an investor Q & A session president and CEO Shuntaro Furukawa stated: ‘With regard to software, we have more titles planned for release in this fiscal year beyond the ones we already announced, and the differences in development environments between home and office may make it difficult to release titles as currently planned, should the impact be prolonged.’
Given the circumstances, a Nintendo Direct isn’t likely to come out anytime soon, and Nintendo has told development partners not to leave big reveals for a Direct. But it is expected we’ll see more surprise trailers for first-party titles like Paper Mario: The Origami King so I’d expect more announcements over the coming weeks.
