Sony will not attend E3 next year
Recently, Sony has announced that they’ll not be attending E3 next year. Accordingly, Sony released this message in conjunction with the information:
“New and Familiar Ways to Engage”
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company told Game Informer in a statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
Additionally, Sony was also asked if they’ll hold a conference of sorts similar to EA’s show adjacent to the Expo.
“We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.”
Interestingly, this follows Sony’s cancellation of their annual PSX event which was supposed to take place in December this year.
“Looking at events as a whole and how we can speak more to our fans and continue to wow them.”
“The timing of PSX and E3 didn’t allow for that, but lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly. Some of our biggest games will have key milestones next year so we will work hard to blow those up.”
Times are changing
Yet, this may appear as sad news for those attending E3 next year though it appears as a sign. For example, Nintendo now delivers its news through their Nintendo Direct series. Of course, this is referring to the lukewarm response of Nintendo promoting simply Super Smash Bros Ultimate at E3 this year.
Not to mention, EA backing out and news that this upcoming E3 may be the last as a 2020 event isn’t planned yet. Honestly, the video game industry is shifting in an interesting direction as digital means are becoming the norm. Yet, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing as change and growth is needed for everything.
