“We do not feel like now is a time for celebration”
Sony’s Future of Gaming event scheduled to take place this Friday has been delayed until further notice. In light of what has happened over the weekend in regards to the death of George Floyd many companies have taken to social media to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Sony uploaded an image statement on twitter yesterday explaining “we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

“We denounce systemic racism and violence against the Black community. We will continue to work towards a future marked by empathy and inclusion and stand with our Black creators, players, employees, families, and friends. #BlackLivesMatter”
Some disgruntled fans have criticized Sony over this. Mainly due to impatience as they’ll have to wait a little longer for a gaming event without seeing the bigger picture. Sure the event is all digital but we have other things that deserve our focus on right now. Others call Sony out for being another woke brand that shows support only on a surface level.
Sony is taking it a step further though, recognizing the criticism by swinging back. If you check the company’s twitter profile you’ll see the replies are full of responses, ranging from comebacks to trolls to helping the spread of information. And sure this could still just be surface-level right? Well, whoever runs the company’s social media says otherwise:
Hold us to it. We want to do more than just make tweets.
