Sony CEO says PS4 will not have cross-platform play

Sony has been under fire for a while now, due to the fact that they don’t allow Cross-play on the PS4 unlike there competitors Microsoft and Nintendo who both allow cross-play on their consoles.

Now Sony did confirm they were looking into cross-play a while back, but we hadn’t heard anything about the situation until now.

Where Sony’s CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, speaking at a conference in Berlin was asked about cross-platform play, Yoshida had this to say on the matter as to why Fortnite would not be getting cross-play on the PS4, well it’s due to the fact that PlayStation is the best place to play Fortnite.

“On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief,” he said. “But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.”

Yoshida also goes on to explain how competition is good in the industry:

“I think competition is always good. Healthy, fair competition is always good for the industry and growth, I think competition with Nintendo and Xbox is a healthy situation.”
