Sales Numbers For Metro Exodus Not Affected

Two months ago Metro Exodus was announced to be Epic Game Store exclusive. This must have been a surprise to everyone because Valve was collecting pre orders on Steam. It look like this decision was made because of conflicting statements from Koch media and THQ Nordic.

You would think that this exclusive deal with Epic could hurt sales, but weren’t we wrong. Metro Exodus sold about 2.5 times more sales than the last Metro title when comparing Steam sales to Epic Game Store.

It’s really about the games, not the store you sell on. We’re super stoked to see this result, and one thing we can say for certain is Epic Games Store is sure to make many hundreds of millions of dollars for our development partners this year.

Steve Allison, Head of Epic Game Store

Deep Silver, developer of Metro Exodus, stated that the generous revenue terms was the biggest key factor in going exclusive to the Epic Game Store. If no one already knew Steam takes 30% revenue cut from the developers, where Epic Games Store only takes 12%.
