SOCOM the classic, the veteran third-person shooter may actually be getting a reboot for the upcoming PlayStation 5 by Horizon Zero Dawn developer, Gorilla Games. The popular tactical shooter originally developed by Zipper Interactive and published by Sony was remembered for being one of the first titles to bring online play to the PS2. It was even of the first games to really incorporate headsets for online gameplay, seeing a whopping two million copies sold a year after the acclaimed series initial release. The demand for this game would be outrageous, and now we have some exciting news for a possible 2020 PS5 Launch.

The popular series saw Four installments on PlayStation Consoles with its first release in August of 2002 and ending with SOCOM 4 in 2011, the former of the series seeing mixed reviews and disappointing developers. SOCOM was also released on PlayStation’s premier portable device, the memorable PSP with another 4 installments of games that were successful, we here at Daily Gaming Report grew up with a lot these games, and needless to say, we would be beyond excited if the rumors were true.

Both Zipper Interactive and Slant Six Games closed up shop in 2012, leaving the franchise dead in the water. This comes from our sources over at BigFryTV whose dug up dirt that developer Gorilla Games has been hiring former SOCOM developers from both Slant Six Games, as well as Zipper Interactive’s mastermind creative director who has since worked on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six franchise. Apart from Horizon Zero Dawn 2, they apparently have other unannounced projects in the mix. Our fingers are crossed, we’ve put the scope on, and our sights are set. SOCOM 5 on PlayStation 5, we’re ready for ya!
