Game development is a difficult, complex task that only people who have done it can testify to the headache-inducing process. A rumor from a Polish publication, Altchar, which got information from a fellow Polish insider Borys Niespielak claims that the reason for the recent delay of Cyberpunk 2077 was caused by its performance on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

In a podcast, Niespielak spoke about the poor performance on the original Xbox One is a major issue. His sources told him that if “this problem with Xbox has not been solved by January 2020, the release date must be postponed.” That is just one console getting called out specifically, but the base PS4 is the same way. It is unconfirmed what the status is with the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and PS4 Pro, but it is significant enough on the base models that the game got pushed further into the year.

CD Projekt Red reported the game is technically ready and playable but needs some extra time to polish it off, leading it from an April release to Sept. 17. The studio has not confirmed this problem has lead to the delay, so take everything here with a grain of salt. Niespielak has a lot of respect in the industry over in Poland, though he is not as known in other parts of the world.
