PS5 limits could happen
Reddit is at it again by finding information on what’s going on in the games industry. User Kgarvey posted a look at the source code of the PlayStation Direct website, pre-ordering a PS5 could be limited to one per household.
“You can only purchase one version of the PS5 Console: Disc or Digital,” reads the source code. “You have already added one PS5 console to your cart.”
The PS5 will have two editions, with a disc drive and a digital-only edition. If this holds true, then consumers will not be able to buy one of each version of the upcoming console. It does not stop anyone from getting two or more per household as you can go around the limitation by pre-ordering through another retailer.
The Reddit user also captured a label that says, “PS5 compatible,” meaning we could see PS4 titles be backward compatible. Sony will offer it, especially as the company’s main competitor, Xbox, has been all about letting players play games on Xbox One or Xbox Series X. From what we know, we won’t be able to play everything on the tall black and white console. The top 100 PS4 games – based on playtime – will be available at launch, so we will see how much is offered a few years into the new generation of PlayStation.
COVID-19 might not be the reason for the potential limit. According to Bloomberg, the company could produce up to 10 million units. With the high demand, Sony has reportedly upped its production to prepare for this holiday season. Once we get the official word from Sony, then we will know what the pre-ordering situation looks like for players wanting to get their hands on the new console and be in the shoes of Miles Morales.
We will have plenty of time to pre-order as Sony will give a heads up before we panic to try to get our PS5s.
