Recently, Niantic has announced that Pokemon GO will be getting a new feature called “Adventure Sync”. Accordingly, Adventure Sync will allow players to track their walking distance. In fact, you can track this while the game is inactive and without the Plus tracker.
Convenient at best
Additionally, this will help in situations like hatching eggs which require the use of walking a number of kilometers with the app on. Not to mention, buddy candies as well.
Supposedly, Adventure Sync uses the iOS Health Kit and Google Fit apps to calculate your progress in calories and steps. In addition, you can receive rewards for your walking progress over a seven day period.
Real World Platform
As of late, Niantic CEO John Hanke mentioned in a blog post that the Adventure Sync feature isn’t exclusive to Pokemon GO. Better yet, it will be used in their other projects as a “real world platform”
“47% of Trainers indicated that they felt their physical activity level had increased since playing, and the same number felt that playing Pokémon GO helped them connect with others,” he wrote. “This type of response from the community reinforces our commitment to not only create innovative real-world games, but also to invest in features like Adventure Sync, which provides a gentle but effective motivation loop that encourages people to get outside and be active every day.”
Honestly, it’s clever to help players continue to make progress on the game while saving battery life and data on their phones. Especially users who might not have the best plans out there for their phones.
