Overwatch on Switch is still a possibility
Overwatch, the popular team-based shooter, has been out for over two years for PS4, XB1, and PC. There’s now a little hope for Switch players getting their chance too.
The game isn’t out for the Switch as of yet. Blizzard’s first problem is that Nintendo hadn’t released the Switch yet. Overwatch’s release came almost a year before the Switch.
That already made it difficult, developing a game for an unreleased console. It’s also difficult for any developer to make Nintendo ports for multi-platform games.
While there has been little hope so far for a Switch release, Blizzard gave fans a glimmer of hope in a recent interview with Eurogamer. Bringing Overwatch to the Switch isn’t impossible.
Jeff Kaplan, the Overwatch game director for Blizzard, didn’t make any promises or set anything in stone. He did say, however, that “it’s something we’re very open-minded about”. That’s better than nothing. The full interview with Eurogamer can be read here.
It would be exciting to see Switch players get the chance to experience it Nintendo-style. Developing Overwatch for the Switch might present some unique problems, but Kaplan seemed optimistic.
Kaplan also talked about Overwatch’s newest hero, Ashe, in the interview and so did we, here at DGR.
