The next entry in the Oddworld series has been confirmed for PlayStation 5
A new trailer has just dropped for the highly anticipated Oddworld: Soulstorm during Sony’s PlayStation 5 Future of Gaming event. Originally revealed at E3 last year, the latest trailer delves further into Abe’s story since his escape from rupture farms.
“an emotionally engaging story, where rescuing is rewarding, failure is devastatingly hilarious, and the memories should last you a lifetime.”
You must find your full voice
The game takes the New ‘n’ Tasty approach by reimagining and expanding upon Abe’s Exoddus while maintaining the spirit of the original. As the second installment in what is expected to be an Oddworld Quintology, the trailer gives us an idea of where the story is heading. We see slugs give chase to a runaway train, watch Mudokons meet their demise, and watch Abe prepare to lose his stitches.
“Witness Abe’s horrifying conflict with a terrifying new machination in this fresh narrative adventure. Oddworld Soulstorm represents a big visual and cinematic leap aiming that breaks new ground for Oddworld. With intelligent new mechanics and twisted new devices that enable highly explosive deviousness. This is a dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.”
The dynamic camera angles are what Lorne Lanning describes as a 2.9D perspective rather than 2.5D. Throughout the levels, the background will give players an idea of what’s to come, down to Mudokons ready to be saved and traps waiting to kill them. Overall it’s estimated to last around 12 hours but will also offer endless replayability. Players can brute force their way through enemies with the scraps they find to make weapons, lure them into traps or take them out silently.
We are very excited to announce that Oddworld: Soulstorm is coming to the #Playstation5 and #Playstation4. We can't wait for what the future holds and are looking forward to sharing Abe and his journey with new players all around the world. #OddworldSoulstorm pic.twitter.com/ZFmakVZ1sL
