Nintendo Switch Online Adds Free NES Games In March

The free NES games for March are available for Nintendo Switch Online.

For those unaware, Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers can play from a list of classic NES games at no extra charge.

This month’s additions are Kid Icarus and Star Tropics. If you happen to live and play in Japan, Yie Ar Jung-Fu and Fire Emblem are also available.

Nintendo has been steadily releasing more and more classic NES titles for Switch Online. To date, there are over 30 NES games available for those who have an active subscription.

This move by Nintendo has had several effects. Primarily, it adds value to the subscription service. With such a rich backlog and the success of the Classic Mini systems, gamers of any age have shown that they are eager for more retro gaming goodness.

Secondly, releasing the older games adds value to the Switch itself. Being able to play old and new games on the same system is a nice little convenience.

Imagine having an Xbox Gold Subscription with free access to the Xbox 360 and Original Xbox catalogue. Imagine the same for Sony and the PS One, 2, and 3 catalogues.

Kid Icarus and Star Tropics are available today for Nintendo Switch Online.
