Capcom has released a new trailer for Devil May Cry 5. And it’s live action!
Now before you get too excited, the ‘live action’ is the pre-visualization shots used to help develop the cutscenes in a game. You can think of it as a physical rehearsal used to get a visual idea of how scenes will play out. By itself, it is a neat look at some of the behind the scenes work that goes into making a video game.
But Capcom has taken things a step further.
In a PR letter, Capcom makes a surprising announcement:
“Real life actors and models created the original dramatic combat scenes of Devil May Cry 5 and now, available exclusively in the Deluxe Edition, players can choose to swap the in-game cinematics with these original pre-vis live action cut scenes, allowing them to enjoy the game as if it’s a real-life Devil May Cry movie! The video gives players a sneak peek of all the action and reveals what happened when the three devil hunters came together to fight in reality.”
So, in the deluxe edition of Devil May Cry 5, players will have the option to substitute the regular, graphical in-game cutscenes with the live action pre-visualization ones.
The simplicity and production value of these live action scenes could completely change how a player experiences the game.
Kudos to Capcom for trying something new while giving players a little taste of how a game is made.
Devil May Cry 5 releases on March 8th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
