New Xbox family settings app will allow parents greater control over their kid’s gaming habits.
Earlier this week Microsoft launched a preview version of their new Xbox family settings app allowing parents to manage their children’s Xbox One profiles.
We don’t know when it will be fully released as it is just a preview for now but the current app is full of features parents will be able to make the most of. Features on the app include the ability to set limits to play sessions, moderate mature content, and monitor communication features.
What sets it apart from the family settings on the consoles is the ability to change preferences in real-time, meaning parents are able to extend or reduce play sessions and kids can also request extensions. These can also be set for different days to allow shorter sessions on school days while maybe giving more time on weekends. The app will also provide daily and weekly activity reports giving parents an idea as to how their kid spends time on their Xbox.
The app currently supports all variations of Xbox One as well as any Windows 10 PC as long as the child account is logged into the Microsoft account with an Xbox profile. There has been no mention of Xbox Series X support but with the app being relatively close to the console’s release it would be surprising if it doesn’t receive support. Full details on the app can be found on the Microsoft website.
The Xbox Family App (Preview) is available now to download on the Android store, the app is also available on the IOS store through TestFlight but limited to the first 10,000 who sign up for it.
What are your thoughts on the app? Do you think the features are too restrictive or glad there’s an easier way to monitor the family Xbox? Let us know in the comments below!
