We learnt a few days ago that the PlayStation 5 is coming Holiday 2020 with a brand new controller with new haptic feedback. Wired got a closer look at the console but also spoke to a few developers who’re busy making titles for the upcoming next-gen console.
One of these developers were Bluepoint Games, who are well known for remastering/remaking games, as they were behind Shadow of the Colossus remake and the Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection. In the coverage by Wired, the boss of Bluepoint Games Marco Thrush said:
“We’re working on a big one right now. I’ll let you figure out the rest.”
Of course, giving that challenge to the internet was a foolhardy thing to do because they have done just that. Over on ResetEra, they are stating that the ‘big one’ is no other than the PlayStation 3 title Demon Souls.
Soulsborne game director Hidetaka Miyazaki said earlier this year while he doesn’t like looking at previous work, he’d be delighted by a remaster that got it right.
“If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realising it again, then that’s something I would enjoy,” he said.
“But it’s really complicated because I have these fond memories.
“Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that.”
The Demon Souls IP belongs to Sony, this is why it has never come to PC like other FromSoftware titles, but with a remastered version of it for the PlayStation 5, it’ll surely be a massive hitter line-up title.
