Halo Infinite is going to be the primary launch title for the next-gen Xbox, but in the space of a few months, another top developer has left their ranks. Lead producer Mary Olson, who was in charge of Halo’s campaign has departed and joined nearby Seattle studio Midwinter Entertainment.
Of course, this lead fans to worry, which makes sense, as won’t these cause problems for the game? There was a lot of confusion behind the two leaving, but 343 community manager John ‘Unyshek’ Junyszek stated in a Reddit post, that clarified everything and said “I’d like to reassure everyone that the entire Halo Infinite team is rallying behind the game and is working hard to make sure we can execute on its vision.”
Reddit post confusion
The title of the Reddit post was this: Halo Infinite director Tim Longo left the company 2 month ago. He replace with Mary Olson and she also left the company recently. What going on at 343I?????
Creative director Tim Longo left in August, and Longo named Olson has his replacement of sorts to oversee the campaign, but in the Reddit post, Unyskek clears this up further, “Unfortunately the thread’s title saying, “He was replace with Mary Olson and she also left,” is far from accurate. It implies that Mary took over creative control of the entire game, didn’t like what she saw, and then decided to leave. If that’s what actually happened, I could totally understand getting worried – but that isn’t the case, as she was a Lead Producer and not a new Creative Director.
There is no creative dilemma inside the studio, and there’s no writing on the walls.”
It’s not clear who will replace Olson has overseer of the campaign, as the release date is still over a year away. And in all honesty Halo 5: Guardians was the weakest campaign by far, even 343 boss Bonnie Ross acknowledged this fact. So for fans to worry about their beloved Halo series is entirely understandable.
