Gears 5 Won’t Be Including A Battle Royal At Launch

It is no surprise that the Battle Royal genre has become as massive as it is; it has rekindled the flame of previous video game veterans and even inspired a new generation of gamers. But when it comes to the all-new Gears 5 set to release this September we can expect no such thing at launch.

So far we know it will include a lengthy and satisfying campaign no doubt, along with plenty of multiplayer game modes such as the infamous Horde and a brand new Escape mode. Multiplayer director Ryan Cleven said this regarding a Battle Royale Mode while speaking to GameSpot, “Gears 5 does not include a battle royale mode. We’re big fans of the battle royale genre, but we would want to ensure we bring a battle royale mode to Gears in a meaningful way. We’re actively listening to our Gears community and will look to further evolve our game modes based on player feedback post-launch.”

As compared to titles like PUBG or COD: Blackout, Gears has always relied on a close-quarters type of play. Jumping from cover to cover, purposely trying not to expose yourself and getting heavily punished if you do. So if a Battle Royal mode was implemented later on it would be interesting to what the devs come up with.
