Brands around the world have been pulling out from the GDC 2020 event next month due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. With the likes of Microsoft, Sony, Facebook/Oculus and Unity cutting ties with the annual event, GDC has now had to make the incredibly difficult decision whether or not to pursue the conference or shelve it. Sadly, the trigger has been pulled. GDC has indeed been postponed to an unconfirmed date. That is if we ever see it at all this year.
Internationally recognised kingpins in the industry and press members will now be scratching the dates off of the calendar and focusing on staff. But as for the March event, well, that’s something we’ll have to keep you updated on. Here’s hoping the GDC will be resurrected in the coming months. Until then, safety comes first and the staffs’ wellbeing is the priority. We’re sure everybody can agree that postponing the event is the right thing to do under these circumstances.
GDC 2020 was due to begin on the 16th March and end on the 20th March.
