Widely regarded as the best team to ever play Rainbow Six Siege. G2 Esports were invited to Six Invitational in Montreal to defend their crown. The team however will not be able to win three in a row as they fell out of the tournament to Ninja’s In Pyjamas.
G2 were yet to lose at the Invitational as they lifted the hammer two years in a row in 2018 and 2019. Both times they won via the winners bracket and destroyed everyone in their path. This year however they were handed their first loss at the event by Fnatic. After a gruelling 2-1 lose they went into the losers bracket to face NiP for a second chance at defending their crown. This was to no avail as the LATAM side beat them on Border (7-2) and Coastline (8-7).
This rounds of a fairly poor year for G2 well for their high standards. The team were given a direct invitation to the event. One which Niclas “Pengu” Mouritzen called, “a pity invitation”. The team were given the chance to cap their year off with a title but faltered at the tournament.
The question a lot of G2 fans will be asking is what next for this team? Only time will tell as to what happens to this roster and if they can come back in year five to retake their throne.
The Six Invitational will continue on February 14th with NiP vs Dark Zero and Fnatic vs BDS Esport.
