Bioware Executive Producer Mark Darrah once again took to Twitter today to drop some new nuggets of information on the upcoming single-player shooter slash multi-player open-world MMO, Anthem. Fans have been eager to learn more about how the game’s complex web of interlocking systems can work together in a way that feels organic.
Darrah answered questions that shed some light on this, specifically focusing on weapons and javelin suits.
Much like in games like Destiny, unused or unwanted weapons can be destroyed, and, according to Darrah, be “turn[ed] into something else.” No further elaboration was added, but it’s possible that weapon destruction could be tied to a crafting system that has been previously reported to be in the game.
Darrah confirmed that there will be no friendly fire in the game. However, fellow javelins can block allies bullets from reaching their intended targets.
The four unique javelins included at launch will each be tied to their own specific ultimate attack. Darrah adds that they “won’t have changeable ultimates at launch.” Ultimates can be modified based on the elemental type of the gear you equip, and the comment leaves the door open for a future system that offers even more flexibility.
Darrah was asked if Anthem features a system where it’s possible to passively grow consumables, a la Monster Hunter World. It does not.
Specific details regarding server locations remain unknown, though Darrah stated he believes a server will be located in the Australia region. Good news for all you blokes and birds down under.
There certainly weren’t any bombshells in terms of things we didn’t already know or expect. But, with each new drip of information, the picture for what Anthem will end up becoming is that much more in focus.
Anthem is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 22nd, 2019.
