CD Projekt Red, the developers behind Cyberpunk 2077 is experimenting with in game destruction to help create the sense of malice in this gruesome dystopian world they want to create. CD Projekt Red intends to make the game gory to make you feel like you’re in that tense environment.

Miles Tost, a level designer working on the game sat down with IGN about what CD Projekt Red wants to create with the game:

“So we’re trying to push the interactivity of the world by adding in details from a physical side,” Tost said. “The game will be highly physical, will have a lot of destruction. You can see that in the demo when you’re in the scavengers area and you shoot at the pillars and they start crumbling.

“The world of Cyberpunk is not a nice beautiful place, everyone happy,” Tost said. “It’s inherently dystopian, and we want to portray this gruesome side of life, the reality of gunfights with super advanced weapons in a world where people augment themselves with arms and military level cyberware that just is there to kill people,”

Though it’s unclear if the game will be fully destructible by the time of the game’s release sometime next year.

“Every platform only has so much performance,” Tost explains. “If you think about it, as a developer, how do you want to root this performance? Do you want to have more NPCs? Do you want to fill a large city space? Or do you want the environments to be more destructible? Do you want the lighting to be better, or do you want to have more complex AI,” he said.

From the gameplay shown so far it would be interesting to see how you can go by wrecking havoc in the landscape of the game. The busy atmosphere would feel chaotic like Grand Theft Auto to see it put through carnage.
