Fans of CD Projekt RED and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 have been waiting for more news on the title after it was delayed to September 2020. Officially the delay was due to polishing… However, according to rumours it was apparently due to current console performance.
The latest piece of news comes from an interview with John Mamais (from the CD Projekt RED team) on OnMSFT. An interesting read and certainly something to check out however, the main point taken from the interview for me at least is in regards to VR support.
Mamais said that the team at CDPR has been playing around with an experimental version of Cyberpunk 2077 in VR, I believe Cyberpunk 2077 would be the perfect game for a VR option (Or at least a spin-off / DLC) but, while they’ve worked on it, they’re “not doing anything with it yet”.
In the interview Mamais explained: “We tried. We were thinking about VR but, yeah, we’re not doing anything with VR. We got the VR dev kits but… some things would work in VR but, I think, it’s not really viable yet. You’re not making a lot of money in VR yet. It’s very experimental and niche, yeah. I would like to. I like VR but we’re not doing anything with it yet”.
Yet, of course being the key word here… And, Although VR may not be the biggest market at the moment it was only recently that Beat Saber broke into the steam top sellers! That and Half Life: Alyx coming soon!
