VR-berpunk 2077… or is it?
If you take a look at the picture accompanying this article you will see that it is definitely Cyberpunk themed. Its got yellow and black colors, some Chinese writing with 2077 underneath it and…… some full VR body kits (also called a KAT-Loco). Obviously we now want to know if that means Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting the VR treatment.
The simple answer of course is no. CD Projekt Red has already said that VR for 2077 was not viable and with all the delays to produce the current game, that would seem true. The PS5 version of the game is not going to be ready until at least mid-2021, and by now we all know that if you get the PS4 version you will get an upgrade to PS5 and vice-versa to compensate for the fact that the PS5 version is not yet ready. Whilst the PC version may have more clout, it still seems far away that we would get VR even for the PC.
But the picture is there, and that is a KAT suit. Which brings me to the next point. The price. A KAT mini costs around £4,337.12 from happy bargain deals (Quick google search). So if 2077 is going to be VR compatible, then who is it for? VR is still pretty new to most people and despite PlayStation and Occulus having a cheaper system, its still a whack to the pocket in the pennies department, therefore how much of the game will be compromised in order to offer something decent on either of those systems. We already know that VR games generally have a lower graphical resolution and after all the work CD Projekt has put into 2077, are they really going to offer a half baked VR experience? Like a famous Fleetwood Mac album ‘Rumours’
One thing is sure though, that this week on the 25th June, Night City Wire will be live-streaming with new updates to the Cyberpunk universe. Perhaps then we will get the mystery of the Chinese press conference picture solved. Watch this space!
