Whether you love it or you hate it, Fornite is one of the biggest games currently available with players logging in countless hours. It appears that the Chinese government are certainly on the hate it side however as they have started to place restrictions on players who play for more than 3 hours to curb addiction.
Over on Reddit, user “Ringsel1” revealed that a message telling players to take a rest appears every hour. However at 3 hours the message tells players not only to take a rest and arrange learning times, but that they will now only receive 50% experience and all challenges are now disabled.
On the plus side for Chinese gamers, the restrictions on placed on Fornite don’t force players to stop playing the game altogether but “Ringsel1” also notes that the message can appear in the middle of gameplay.
The Chinese government has a history of censoring video games. For example they banned versions of Diablo 3 which feature blood and gore as well as forced changes to the undead faction model in World of Warcraft so its bones aren’t sticking out.
It could be argued that this change isn’t going to do much to curb addiction because if someone is addicted to Fornite than they are probably playing for more than 3 hours anyway and this change isn’t going to completely stop them from playing. Its only going to make the grind to reaching season level 100 take longer for everyone.
So tell us what do you think of these changes and do you think that they will even help curb the addiction to Fornite? Let us know in the comments below.
