Activision has been saying for a few weeks now that loot boxes are not in upcoming game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but fans are still wary since Sony has limited one of the game modes to PlayStation 4, so why should people trust them? However, Activision has confirmed they have decided to go down the Battle Royale route with a Battle Pass instead.
No loot boxes or any season pass’s will come to Modern Warfare; instead, you can earn rewards for free or pay for the Battle Pass to get extra rewards. New weapons and “functional attachments” can only be obtained playing the title, while players who have the Battle Pass will earn in-game currency. There is also an in-game story which will only feature aesthetic purchases, which will not impact game balance, so no pay to win feature, and no doubt you can purchases these with in-game currency earned.
The Battle Pass feature will not be live the week of Call of Duty’s launch, rather it’ll be rolled out with post-launch live season updates, with each one will have their individually themed content.
“First and foremost, we are all focused on making the Day One experience awesome. Second, it’s important to us that everyone who is playing Modern Warfare has the chance to work their way through the new game and unlock all the rewards that are waiting for you. We expect to launch this system for Modern Warfare later this year,” said Activision in their announcement.
Oddly, Modern Warfare is going down the Battle Royale route, without having any Battle Royale elements. Do you think one is coming?
