So with Blackout which is Activision’s take on the Battle Royale, now finally confirmed after months of rumors. Treyarch has not actually given us the size of the map, but surely it has to be pretty big if you are going to be allowing players to fly helicopters around the map. So let’s go over the size of the map.
Using what developer David Vonderhaar, Driftor was able to put together an estimate for how big the Blackout map would be which is somewhere between 4.5km2 and 7.4km2 in size. Which means it is bigger than Fortnites map which comes in at 5.5km2 and just smaller than the PUBG Erangel map which comes in at 64.0km2. So the map will be a little bit bigger than the Fortnite map but smaller than Erangel from PUBG.

Now it is worth noting that the Blackout map is far from finalized. Even though it has been in development for over a year. Treyarch has yet to make some crucial decisions about Blackout, these being how many players will Blackout hold So, for example, will it have 100 players or less, this is yet to be confirmed by Treyarch. Now while it is more than likely that it will have 100 players as I don’t see it having less, some estimations have put the player count below 100 and others at nearly 150.
Now knowing all this information it is possible that Treyarch is going to adjust the size of the map before Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 releases on October 12. Also after launch, the map could be tweaked to adjust for balance issues and player feedback.
Hopefully, after the launch of Call Of Duty Black Ops 4, we could see other Blackout maps released.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch on October 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
