Beyond Good and Evil 2 is coming together after a hellish production history. The game is still a ways out, but there is now a new video to help promote the world you’ll be exploring. The showcase was announced a month ago and here it is in all its glory.
Ubisoft published an almost 27-minute long video on December 11 to show off the game. There’s a lot of info to pick up from the demo, like the spyglass utilization or ability to smoothly travel between cities and space. You can watch the demo below.
If it sounds too good to be true…
The demo does a good job of showcasing all the different mechanics from combat to exploration. The player will play the role of a space captain and will be able to recruit members for the crew. If you don’t want to watch the full video, then there’s a compressed version that highlights the major points. And you can watch that one below.
The demos didn’t do a lot to get me excited for this game. In fact, I have some serious doubts about Beyond Good and Evil 2 and the videos made those concerns worse.
The game boasts a lot of functions, features and possibilities. You can see how the different aspects of the game have been inspired by Star Fox, Mass Effect and maybe even Blue Dragon some, but they appeared to be half-baked versions of their inspirational counterparts.
The combat looked boring and hard to control and the spyglass tool might become annoying to constantly use when you’re investigating someone or something right in front of you.
As I said, I have my doubts, but I’ll keep an open mind for Beyond Good and Evil 2 as it’s still fairly early in the development process, and it’s also a miracle in and of itself that it’s even made it this far after an initial 2008 reveal. I’m not the only one uncertain about the game either, but we’ll have to wait and see.
What did you think of the demos? Was I way off on my stance or does this game concern you at this point? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
