Bethesda claims future games will be on Steam, Fallout 76 won’t be

Fallout 76 will be on Bethesda.net though

After the news that Fallout 76 wouldn’t come to steam and that it would be through Bethesdas own launcher. Fans were in the middle on how they felt some liked the idea while others didn’t. However, at Quakecon 2018 Pete Hines was approached by IGN about the whole situation and Pete has this to say about the situation:

“We did not announce all future Bethesda games will not be on Steam,’” Hines explained. “That is not what we said. We said ‘this game will be available exclusively on Bethesda.net.’

With other Bethesda games been announced such as Doom Eternal IGN asked Pete if Doom Eternal would take the same approach as Fallout 76 and skip the Steam store as well and be available exclusively on the Bethesda.net launcher. Pete has this to say:

“We haven’t decided on anything else, this is specific to Fallout 76 given the kind of game it is — it’s an online, ongoing game,” he continued. “[Doom Eternal] may or may not, but it hasn’t been decided on anything else yet.”

He also went on to explain that he isn’t sure if Fallout 76 will actually come to the steam store in the future going on to say:

“Is it possible? I guess, but I honestly couldn’t give you any guarantee one way or the other on whether it will or won’t.”

Fans of the game wanted to know why they decided to skip the Steam store in general as we have seen this before we some of their other games such as Elder Scrolls Online which come to the steam store after launching exclusively on Bethesda.net launcher. Pete had this to say on the situation for skipping the Steam store:

“We feel like the best way for us to provide the best experience and service to our customers is to be dealing with them directly, and not through someone else.”

“There are some different things that have happened or have come up where having everyone work directly with you does make things a little easier in terms of talking to your player base, having them talk to you,” Hines said. “I am 100% sure I know whose fault it is and whose problem it is when you’re having an issue with the game: it’s ours.”
