Gameplay footage from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been leaked
On July 5th, 30 minutes of gameplay showcasing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla hit the internet. While Ubisoft has tried to remove this gameplay from YouTube and other platforms, many have seen it. Having watched it myself, I can confirm with near certainty that it is real gameplay. At the moment, we don’t know what stage of development the footage is from. However, people have seen enough to start to comment on the game. I’ll try to summarise what I learned from the gameplay here.
Firstly, the game is an RPG. Like the most recent Assassin’s Creed games, the new entry in the series veers away from a more action-orientated experience. Instead, it provides large amounts of customization for gear and weapons. Add to this a large open world that tries to emulate The Witcher 3, and Valhalla falls firmly in the RPG category.
However, the game that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla seems most like is its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The combat looked largely identical in the gameplay clip, with similar reliance on special abilities in fights. As in Odyssey, these abilities have icons in the bottom left of the screen (and are mapped to different buttons). Also similar to Odyssey, Valhalla gives the player a choice between a male or a female protagonist. In the gameplay, the player uses the female lead, Eivor.
Although Ubisoft is eager to remove all the leaked footage from the internet, we will be showing the gameplay here. Also, you can easily find out on YouTube right now. While we don’t know what stage of development the game is in, the gameplay has shown us a bit of what to expect. You can expect a better look at the game during the Ubisoft Forward event on July 12th.
