Merge Games reveal an upgrade to Master System classic
SEGA’s old mascot is back with a remake of his classic debut. Aside from cameos in the likes of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Sega Superstars Tennis, it’s been thirty years since he’s had a starring role.
Alex Kidd seemed to be going through an identity crisis during the 80’s, most of his games were spin-offs and Miracle World only received one ‘true’ sequel making it hard to define what direction the series was going in. Eventually Sonic took over as SEGA’s mascot and the rest is history, thankfully the recent trend of classic remakes makes Alex Kidd the best candidate and will give him a chance to shine again.
Announced during day one of IGN’s Summer of Gaming event, the remake is being developed by Jankenteam and published by independent studio Merge Games, known for the likes of Frostpunk and Gone Home.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX takes the Wonder Boy approach by giving the original a new coat of paint while preserving the main mechanics. Miracle World DX takes it a step further and builds upon the original by featuring completely new levels, modes, and alternative boss fights with the option to play with the original graphics.
