Another year, another leak for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
According to an anonymous post on the official Assassin’s Creed subreddit (paired with a blurry image of the apparent title screen), the next game in the franchise is rumored to be titled Assassin’s Creed: Adder. Set after the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins, redditor AnonymousLeaker2020 provided limited details on gameplay in the supposed sequel:
“Set after Origins, Adder follows the Assassin, Amunet (Aya) and her first 14 years building a Guild in Ancient Rome. The Brotherhood system will make a comeback but with a few tweaks, including a ranking system where your Hidden Ones can climb the ranks. The game will also feature Bayek as a supporting role and will be playable in certain missions. The game will be a collaborative project between Montreal and Quebec, with Melissa MacCoubrey making a comeback.”
A leak with holes?
As with any leak, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. For starters, while both Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec have developed Assassin’s Creed titles in the past, there has never been a “collaborative project” between the two. Ubisoft Montreal was responsible for the development of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, so it seems unlikely (if not impossible) that they would need to collaborate with the Quebec division for the sequel.
Furthermore, the reference to Ubisoft Quebec narrative director Melissa MacCoubrey “making a comeback” is odd in its own right. Per Ubisoft’s official site, MacCoubrey has worked on several titles in the past few years, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,
With all that being said, there is some potential for truth to this leak. After all, Assassin’s Creed Origins was leaked by Kotaku several months before its announcement. Odyssey, too, was leaked by French site JeuxVideoLive. Considering the franchise’s unique history regarding leaks, it’s not entirely surprising that they’ve already started for the next game in the series.
