The Division was a prime example of how games today can go from the least liked release of the year, to a gaining a cult following and endless praise later down the line. We see this happening more frequently with games these days, considering updates and patches are inevitable, and no game releases without promise of DLC.
Despite the rocky start, The Division grew to be one of the most popular multiplayer games on the market. Well now, the highly anticipatedThe Division 2 has been announced for March 15th 2019, and this is everything we know about Ubisoft’s next big title.
The Division dropped us in lawless Manhattan, where you hadto fight to survive the frozen open world. The Division 2 takes place in WashingtonD.C. seven months after the events in Manhattan. The Dollar Flu, which devastated New York, has also hit the East Coast, ravaging the famed American cities. With nature reclaiming the city, you, a new agent, must fight the lawless and try to regain order within Washington D.C. Ultimately, you must save the entire nation.
Washington D.C. has been recreated as accurately as possible, to keep authenticity and to provide a view of the city post-disaster.In the aftermath of the virus’ rampage through the East Coast, nature has reclaimed most of the city. As you traverse this modern-day jungle, you’ll experience the power struggle between Division Agents and enemy factions, and prevent a civil war from consuming the city.
Your new agent is a veteran within the Strategic Homeland Division, and knows the importance of keeping the government stable during times of crisis. Trained and ordered by presidential order, you head to Washington D.C. to prevent the downfall of society, a city and a nation.
As with the previous instalment of The Division, TheDivision 2 has several gameplay modes. Take on the campaign to save Washington D.C. from the brink of all out civil war, pulling you into difficult missions and dangerous situations. In co-op (cooperative)mode you can team up with your friends and take on the most difficult mission together. The more agents, the merrier! Finally, in PvP (player vs. player) mode, it’s anyone’s game. Take on other players and test your load-outs against theirs in a fight to the death.
Even after you reclaim Washington D.C. and create peace, an agent’s job is never done. EndGame provides more challenges, rewards and game modes upon reaching level 30. Once you reach level 30, you’ll be able to activate one of three specialisations; Survivalist, Demolitionist or Sharpshooter.
The Survivalist use traps, their trusty crossbow and status effects in order to survive, even in the harshest of environments. The Demolitionists the polar opposite to a stealth agent, using their grenade launcher to cause all out chaos. The Sharpshooter is invisible, and takes out their targets from a distance with their lethal sniper rifle
Some major features of EndGame include more PvP, where you can earn powerful gear, new co-op missions and clans. On top of all this extra EndGame content, there will be a full year’s worth of new content added regularly including game features, map expansions and story-driven missions.
One of the best things about The Division were the weapons, the mods and creating the best load-outs for your missions. In The Division 2 Ubisoft have reworked weapon handling for more realism and a better gameplay experience. With this rework comes a new weapon category; Rifles. This brings the list of weapon categories up to seven, including: Assault Rifles, Marksman Rifles, SubmachineGuns, Shotguns, Light Machine Guns, Pistols and Rifles.
A game cliché which is loved by all, exotic weapons will continue to be present in The Division 2. However, they will be much more visible and stand out from the rest of the weaponry. Grenades have taken a different turn in the sequel, with the concussion grenade being the only available grenade between levels 1-29. Once you hit level 30, you can specialise and each specialisation comes with its own grenade. Sharpshooter comes with a flashbang, Demolitionist have incendiary grenades and Survivalists have frag grenades.
The talent system will have all new talents and a new way of obtaining them. To weave the talent system into the gameplay, the talents will have a gameplay theme which the weapon must also be connected to. Mods, another important part of The Division will see some major changes. Rather than looting mods, you will need to unlock them. This will help make the modding experience feel more like personal customisation to your own playstyle. Mods once unlocked will be available for all weapons suitable for the mod simultaneous. Another new system coming to mods in The Division 2 is a stats system. Mods will have both positive and negative stats, ultimately making the choice of whether to mod your weapon a tough one.
In a blog via Ubisoft we got a sneak peek at five different skill categories. These include; the Chem Launcher, Done, Hive, Seeker Mine and Turret.
The Chem Launcher is a new skill in The Division 2. Similar to a grenade launcher, this canister will disperse various different chemical attacks on the enemies. There are four different chemical charges to choose from; Firestarter, Riot Foam, Oxidizer and Reinforcer.
The Drone will fly by your side until you issue it a command. The different categories of drone include; Striker, Defender,Tactician, Bombardier and Fixer.
The Hive is an advanced group of micro-drones which can be placed or thrown. Categories of Hive include; Stinger, Restorer, Booster and Reviver.
The Seeker Mine is a nod back to one of the fan favourite skills from the original game. Able to accurately detect enemies, the Seeker Mine is an invaluable skill in The Division 2. Categories of Seeker Mine include;Explosive, Airburst, Mender and Cluster.
The Turret, another one The Division veterans will remember, targets and shoots enemies, and can be thrown or placed near you. Categories ofTurret include; Assault, Incinerator, Artillery and Sniper.
