Everything We Know About Rage 2
Nine years after the release of RAGE, a first-person shooter from id Software, RAGE 2 is finally seeing the light of day. In what was supposed to be a surprise announcement from Bethesda, RAGE 2 ended up being announced via a leak through Walmart Canada. In a tongue-in-cheek response, the official RAGEgame twitter account tweeted the following, its first activity in a few years.

Come on, Walmart, get it together with your placeholder listings. This sparked a lot of fanfare and rumour with id Software and Bethesda not denying the fact that RAGE 2 was a fully-fledged, real game.
Bethesda’s Pete Hines didn’t seem all too happy about the leak from Walmart, replying to a fan’s question with some very dry humour.
Go buy a Magic 8-ball at WalMart and ask it.

In hindsight, it looks like Bethesda were waiting for the big E3 2018 conference to announce the RAGE sequel, hoping for a shock announcement and creating a lot of buzz around their E3 show. However, with the Walmart Canada leak pushing their hand, they had to announce the game earlier than anticipated with an official blogpost announcement on May 15th.
Despite all the drama surrounding the game’s announcement, RAGE 2 is looking to be a crazy, all guns blazing instalment to the RAGE franchise. With publisher Bethesda behind some of the best first-person games of this decade (Dishonored franchise, Wolfenstein franchise), id Software behind the chaos that was DOOM and Avalanche Studios creating our favourite all out destruction open world games (Just Cause franchise), we’re pretty excited to see what RAGE 2 has to offer. We at the Daily Gaming Report go through everything we know so far about RAGE 2.
What’s All The RAGE?
Described as a ‘carnival of carnage’, RAGE 2 is set in a dystopian world with no structure, society, law or order. You will play as Walker, the last Ranger of Vineland, who is trying to survive the insanity of the dystopian world he’s in.
Published by Bethesda, developed by Avalanche Studios and id Software, RAGE 2’s dystopian setting allows for all out madness in a world where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.
With an open world, chaotic wasteland full of enemies, brutal weapons and vehicles that don’t adhere to the highway code, RAGE 2 has a lot to offer.
A Marriage Made In Heaven
RAGE 2 brings two developers together to create an unexpected studio power-couple. With id Software’s FPS success and Avalanche Studios’ open world carnage, this combination is a match made in heaven. During the Bethesda 2018 E3 Showcase, Magnus Nedfors of Avalanche Studios stated:
“The world of RAGE 2 is perfect for our style of gameplay. But even more exciting is the chance to work with id Software. These guys invented the first-person shooter – and they still make the best shooters out there. It’s been a great collaboration to bring you the most insane open-world shooter you’ve ever played.”
With the minds behind the open world destruction of the Just Cause franchise, and the forefathers of the first-person shooter coming together, we’re pretty excited for what RAGE 2 has to offer. Watch the full E3 reveal along with music below.
RAGE 2 follows on from RAGE, years after an asteroid decimated the earth, leaving mankind to rebuild, survive and return to the most primal of animal instincts. Twenty years after the end of RAGE, populations have condensed and cities have formed. This is where we begin, as Walker, a civilian of Vineland, a city completely walled off from the dangers beyond.
Without spoiling much of the introduction, the Authority, a returning enemy from RAGE, displace the potential peace Vineland endeavours to create. This leaves Walker having to leave his home and fight for survival, and for the good of mankind. The Authority have killed off all the rangers, an elite group with super-human powers that fight for the good of mankind. This leaves Walker, the last ranger, to pick up the slack and face off against this formidable foe.
This gigantic open world has a lot to offer, from enemy factions to mutants trying to kill you at every turn. The wasteland is a very big place, offering vast swamplands and jungles, forgotten cities reclaimed by nature, mutant filled sewers and much more.

The Highway Code
Well, there isn’t one. Much like Mad Max, you can travel this post-post-apocalyptic wasteland in a variety of different vehicles with no police to stop you. However, pretty much everyone else will want to kill you, so keep that in mind and be ready for some epic road-rage fuelled battles. Vehicles range from gyrocopters, monster trucks and even ice cream trucks.
This game doesn’t stop at brutal vehicular battles, as you can compete in barbaric races and leave the competition eating your dust and their own blood.
All The Gear, Plenty Of Ideas
Guns, guns and more guns. RAGE 2 will feature a wide array of guns in an almost silly amount of sizes. All we truly know at the moment is that there will be a lot of fun, upgradable guns to play with, including one that allows you to juggle enemies in the air.
RAGE 2 brings back the Wingstick, a boomerang of sorts that boasts blades and provides for a pretty lethal game of frisbee. Originally being used to silently hunt prey, people soon caught on that the Wingstick was just as good at killing mutants and bandits. With technological advancements Wingsticks can now multi-target, smart-target and explode, among other deadly enhancements. To read more about the Wingstick read the official blogpost here.
Walker is a ranger, which means he has Arkist blood flowing through his veins. This allows him to use Nanotrite abilities, which basically turns him into superhero of the wasteland. With abilities such as Slam, Double Jump and Shatter among others, you can chain Walker’s moves to unleash the maximum amount of mayhem.
Are all these guns, abilities and gadgets not enough for you? Don’t fret, as the Overdrive skill is here to save the day. Triggering Overdrive gives your weapons even more attributes, taking the mayhem even further up the scale. Read more on vehicles, abilities and weapons on the official blogpost here. To see all this gear coalesce into mayhem during a mission, watch the official gameplay feature below.
Now killing mutants in a video game with superpowers and insane weapons is all fun, but sometimes you want some physical trophy for all your hard grinding in game. Lucky for you, the RAGE 2 Collector’s edition comes with a talking, singing head of Ruckus the Crusher, which can be wall mounted if you so wish. This edition also includes a collector’s edition poster, steelbook, RAGE 2 and digital content. This edition is available to pre-order at GAME for £119.99 now.
RAGE 2 E3 Panel
In an E3 panel for RAGE 2 Magnus Nedfors, game director for RAGE 2 from Avalanche Studios and Tim Willits, Studio Director at id software discuss the ‘love story’ between the two studios. Magnus Nedfors agreed with Tim Willits in saying:
“We have both the love for total, just crazy action. So, in both types of games we have that as a common thing, in all our games previously, and when we saw the opportunity to merge those two”
As well as featuring some gameplay, the panel goes on to discuss the many stories and side quests that will feature in the massively open wasteland as Walker’s story progresses, not following a liner path. Lastly, another notable piece information given away here was that there will be a well done, definitive ending.
